Misty September Mornings

The 1st of September saw us celebrating 3 years at Ty Derw! The time has absolutely flown by and we’ve certainly learnt a lot. Dinas Mawddwy is a fantastic place to live and the community couldn’t have been more welcoming to us.

We were lucky to have a visit this month from returning guests and great friends Vicky, Roger and Peter. Roger really enjoys summoning Jason to the breakfast table with a bell and never arrives without another one to add to his collection. We always have so much fun when these guys visit, there is never a dull moment!

We visited Powys Castle in Welshpool earlier in the month and were blessed with gorgeous sunny skies. We were very impressed with the castle and gardens and would highly recommend a visit to our guests.

Quite often we hear the tawny owls outside the house and occasionally catch a glimpse of one in the tree. Jason was lucky on a trip over towards Lake Vyrnwy to come across this beauty practicing their hunting skills. We think it is one this years young and was not bothered by Jason or his camera coming quite close.

We are blessed to live in a dark sky area here in Snowdonia and Jason has been trying his hand at some night time photography. These show the milky way from the top of Bwlch Y Groes and behind the house.

As we come to the end of our busiest period Jason is able to get out and about with his camera again and come up with new images to go on the walls in our guest bedrooms. Prints are also for sale to guests wishing to take a souvenir home with them! Llyn Nantlle is north of and we think an early morning trip out was well worth the effort for these lovely shots. Guests staying in Foel Dinas will see the shot on the left in pride of place.

The Mawddach Trail is a local walk along the route of a disused railway line (recommended for those preferring a flat route!) which passes along the estuary from Dolgellau and into Barmouth. If you’re lucky you may see kingfishers catching their lunch while you’re passing by.

And finally we are absolutely over the moon with this fabulous painting by Pam Rogerson. Pam stayed with us earlier in the year and showed us some of her work which we loved. We were thrilled this week when the painting arrived in the post. Thank you so much Pam, this will be hung in pride of place for everyone to enjoy.

Have a good weekend all!
